Moulin de la Ville is an ancient water mill situated within walking distance of the centre of Beaumont Du Perigord.  20 minutes from Bergerac airport.    2 well appointed bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.  60 euros per night for a double room for 2 people including breakfast.  Take the stress out of your visit and make your stay even more enjoyable by allowing chef patron Steven Hickling to cook your evening meal. 35 years experience at the highest level (including a Michelin Star).  Menus start at 16 euros including local wine!

If you're not coming over to France for very long (perhaps just to sign the compromis de vente or meet with the architect or builder), you may prefer not to book into an hotel but instead choose a traditional French chambre d'hôtes - it's like Bed & Breakfast but better! You can opt for table d'hôtes too - an evening meal cooked by your hosts and normally eaten with them en famille. This presents an excellent opportunity to ask about local facilities, markets, shopping, schools, transport, recreational amenities etc. and get to know your new 'patch'. It's so much more personal and friendly than checking into a budget hotel and hardly costs much more.

So what's the difference between these different types of accommodation? Simply put, chambres will suit those staying one, two or three nights and who do not want to go into a hotel (see our separate section for hotels in the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne). You'll get a continental breakfast included and, often, the option of an evening meal. Gites tend to be self-catering and self-contained, although they can sometimes be adjoining or adjacent to the owner's accommodation. Here you will find cooking facilities, perhaps a terrace and use of the garden (and pool if applicable). So, chambres are really like B&B and gites are holiday cottages/ holiday homes. Tables d'hôtes are meals with the family, often as an add-on to chambres. In addition to these, you will see signs for acceuil à la ferme or bienvenue à la ferme - these are a sort of 'open-house' at a working farm where the owners make and sell their own produce. This may be foie gras or produits artisanales (local home-produced goods such as home-cured pork and ham, honey, pâté and other items). Whenever you have the chance, do stop by and try some of these wonderful foods - the owners are always delighted to show off their wares, and there is seldom any feeling of obligation to buy. Tasting in this manner is known in France as dégustation. It's what France is all about!
